EUROPEAN COMMISSION SETS STANDARDS FOR ULTRA WIDEBAND TECHNOLOGY

Germantown, MD – February 26, 2007 – In a much anticipated announcement, the European Commission (EC) has adopted mandatory conditions for the use of ultra wideband (UWB) devices across the European Union. The technical terms of the decision must be applied within six months throughout the 27 EU member states.

"It is important that we establish a functioning single market for these devices in the European Union," said Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media. "By adopting a harmonising decision today, the commission allows innovators to use this new technology throughout the EU, while ensuring no interference takes place with other wireless users."

"This is a welcome decision from the EC," stated Dr. Robert J. Fontana, MSSI President and CEO. "As expected, the EC has specified that UWB systems be allowed to operate in the 6.0 - 8.5 GHz band where interference to existing infrastructure such as Broadband Fixed Wireless Access systems can be avoided. Given MSSI's decision several years ago to develop its commercial UWB systems above 6 GHz, we expect to be among the first to market our systems under the new European unlicensed regulations."
